I know the feeling. I get a little choked up whenever I see something that even mentions San Francisco these days.
If you have time when you're in Hamburg, you should pop over to Lübeck, which is where I lived for a year. It's about an hour by train and absolutely beautiful (it was the "queen of the Hanseatic League" back in the day).
