Trev and I just decorated our Christmas tree. It looks very pretty! I'm really getting into the Christmas vibe now - last night I went out on London's South Bank with the cast of Forever Godard (the play I'm directing) and sang a mixture of German and English carols at the German Christmas market that's there right now. We made £25 in an hour which I think is pretty impressive! I'm sure it'll all just get spent on drink after next week's rehearsal, but oh well...

On an unrelated note, I've been listening to the Weepies a lot recently, and I think one their songs really sums up this year in some ways:

Not Your Year

Scattered shadows on a wall, you watch the long light fall
Some impressions stay and some will fade
Tattered shoes outside your door, clothes all on the floor
Your life feels like the morning after all year long.

Every day it starts again
You cannot say if you're happy
You keep trying to be
Try harder, maybe this is not your year.

Movies, TV screens reflect just what you expected
There's a world of shiny people somewhere else
Out there following their bliss
living easy, getting kissed
while you wonder what else you're doing wrong

Breathe through it, write a list of desires
Make a toast, make a wish, slash some tires
Paint a heart repeating, beating "don't give up, don't give up, don't give up."

Wow, that took a while. I finally have internet! Hooray! Now I'm just trying to catch up on the million and one things I have to do involving the net... I need to read about 20 articles concerning Joerg Haider tonight, and plan a whole load of stuff for the play I'm directing. But I thought it had been far too long since I last updated my LJ, so hi f-list! Long time no see! I've had a slightly stressful few weeks, and was getting kind of down about it (and annoyed that I couldn't let off steam here) but at last things seem to be settling down into some kind of rhythm which is pretty welcome. I'm just trying to fit in planning my dissertation now, writing my HP Next Gen Fest fic, and sorting out my band. I did my first gig on Wednesday which was pretty cool, so now I have some feedback from that and some things to work on, and I just need to try and get some more. Fingers crossed that things will carry on going well (and that sooner or later I'll write a new song.... ho hum).

I'm going to go back to watching Long Way Down now. Mmm Ewan MacGregor!

I should really be writing my presentation for tomorrow, but never mind... instead I'm browsing The Pier website for bed linen and bathroom products and furniture.  Oh, I wish I had money to make my house look all pretty in September!  Some of the furniture I've got there is still flat pack stuff I've had since I was 10, and I'm getting a bit fed up with it really... oh well.  I still plan on making it look a lot more 'grown-up' when I get back, since I will have a living room as well as a bedroom and so on, and no housemates other than Trev!  I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm also sitting around in my flat waiting for a guy to come who is interested in playing in my band, which should be interesting.  I wanted to get everyone together at once but it just didn't work out today, so I'll just have to find a different time when we're all free.  C'est la vie!

Also, in the spirit of procrastination )

The results of my recording session on Wednesday are now up on my myspace! Which is here: Anna's Myspace!. Go have a listen and let me know what you think! The first two songs listed have been up a while, the other four are all brand new :)

Who here's seen Mulholland Drive?

I'm listening to Rebekah del Rio's version of 'Crying' in Spanish, from the Club Silencio scene, on repeat. <3

gakked from someone on the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide f-list.

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 15 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

1 Smoke lingers round your fingers...
2 Once in every show, there comes a song like this...
3 3 little birds sat on my window, and they told me I don't need to worry... guessed as Corrinne Bailey Rae ~ Put Your Records On by [livejournal.com profile] bexwivspex
4 Heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak...
5 Come down the same worn paths again - do you fly, do you?...
6 First the good news: it's gonna feel very nice...
7 I look at you walk, see the love there that's sleeping...
8 You and your friends, in boxes of ten... guessed as The Feeling ~Rose by [livejournal.com profile] bexwivspex
9 Hand in glove, the sun shines out of her behind...
10 Mrs.... will you... make me tea?...
11 The way we lie, it's better off this way...
12 There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea...
13 Autumn leaves under frozen soles, hungry hands turning soft and old...
14 Put the lights on the tree (put them on the tree, put them on the tree)...
15 A-Louie Louie, oh no, I really gotta go...

Just to give some clues - there are two by the same artist there, four where the title is in the first line (and therefore listed!), one from a musical, one from a film, one is one of my favourite songs ever (and makes me cry), and one is festive (no points for guessing which!)

Um... if you can think of something you want from me, I'll give it to you if you guess right?  (As in drabble, icon... just re-reading that sentence I realise it could mean something more, hehe!)  Also, I waited til the last one had finished to put the music I was listening to for this post, so no clues from there!

I'm the Cheshire Cat in the German play!  I'm so happy, it's going to be loads of fun.  I'm briefly Tweedledee, as well, but that's just one line basically.  And hopefully I'm going to be writing the score, too, so I think this is overall going to be fantastic fun :)  And I made a Katze icon, just cos I'm so excited....

Plus I'm listening to Amos Lee, which always makes me happy :)  Yay for Saturday and bunking off work!!
