Before the memes, just wanted to update you all on my internet-less-ness - the guy didn't turn up on Friday (again), but someone is now supposed to be coming next Monday, so let's see. Basically, as soon as he turns up, I will have the internet. So sorry about the lack of commenting! I will be back asap!

And now, some memes :)

[livejournal.com profile] tree_and_leaf gave me 1999, which is the year I turned 12, and was tbh fairly uneventful! It was the year I first visited Germany and Austria; we did a school trip to a small town near Salzburg whose name I can't remember, and did a day trip to Germany to southern Baveria, to another town whose name I can't remember but was where Hitler had his summer house. My clearest memory of the trip is asking someone (by accident) if they spoke German instead of asking if they spoke English! I think that 1999 was also the year my first cat, Mitty, died, at the age of 16. And I think it was also the year I passed grade 5 piano! It's also the only year between 1998 and now that I didn't go on a guide or scout camp of any sort.

1. What was the most difficult decision you ever had to make and did you regret it?
I think probably choosing whether to go to King's (my uni) to study German on it's own, or to go somewhere else so I could still do German and Music. (I originally applied to do German and Music at King's but missed out on the grade I needed by about 1% or something ridiculous, and therefore was offered a place to do German alone). And I don't regret deciding to go to King's anyway, for several reasons. Firstly, I met my boyfriend in the residential halls there, and we're still together now two and a half years later. Secondly, I was allowed to take a small number of music courses anyway, and they all turned out to be fairly tedious and uninteresting, so I'm quite glad I'm not doing half and half. The only thing that did annoy me slightly was that I didn't apply to Oxbridge because they didn't offer German and Music joint honours, and I didn't want to end up doing just German... but here I am. So I'll never know if I could have got in or not!

2. What career would you choose in the wizarding world? Not an auror... it's really not my idea of fun! Being an Unspeakable sounds rather fun, or maybe International Magical Liaison? (heh, if that exists). I like the idea of a job in the Ministry where you have to deal with all the other wizarding communities all over the world. And of course there would have to be a Kwik-Spell language course to magically be fluent in every language in the world, too!!

3. What kind of special skill or talent would you like to have?
I'd love to learn to play the oboe. I actually own one, but I've never got around to having lessons on it! And of course, to learn to dance without looking like a giraffe.

4. If you had to emigrate, which country/place would you choose to settle down permanently?
Probably Germany :) Because that would be quite easy! But if it had to be outside of the EU, then New Zealand, because most of my Mum's family live there anyway.

5. Weirdest job you ever had?
I've had a few! I was a church organist for a while, which was fun. They used to leave my pay in the font - £20 a service! And I spent a summer selling advertising to French B&B owners. I was really bad at it, but I am now really good at impersonating unimpressed French people.

Comment if you're bored and would like 5 questions/ a year of your very own!

I think that would be Berchtesgaden.

I also think JKR mentions something like International Magical Liaison? There's goblin liaison, too, so they should have that. ;-)

Also, I think looking unimpressed is the standard look for Frenchmen.

Yes, Berchtesgaden! It was a very pretty town.

I think travelling in general would be so much more relaxing wizard-style... I'm so fed up with airports! The goblins would probably scare me a bit, though.

Also, I think looking unimpressed is the standard look for Frenchmen. - I spent the whole summer asking why they didn't want to buy the advertising, and I got the same answer EVERY time: 'c'est parce que... bah... non'! Which in any other language sounds like a small child just going 'just because'. I love French :)
