I love making new friends, so I will almost certainly friend you if you ask :D

A little about me: my name is Anna, and I live in Germany (although I'm not originally from there). I've been active in fandom, first on forums, then LJ, and then here, since about 2002, although RL means that I'm not as active as I'd like to be these days. I mostly post fic and write about RL: things that interest me like languages and current affairs, things that amuse me, plans and dreams, food, and travelling the world. Fandom-wise, I'm fairly multi-fannish - Yuletide is the highlight of my year! - but my biggest fandoms right now are Persona 3, 4, and 5, Dangan Ronpa, FFXIV, and The Witcher. I post my fic to AO3 under the same username, mk_tortie :D

Yuletide is truly spectacular, isn't it? I've always felt it showcases why fandom itself is amazing - such brilliant, often bizarre, frequently intriguing work and all written as gifts!

I tried to read the first Witcher book in preparation for the series, but I inadvertently read the short stories one and was very confused the whole time. Where should I actually start if I want to try again? Thank you!

Hmm, I would actually suggest starting with The Last Wish, even though it's the short story collection, because it does set up everything else. Plus the stories are a lot of fun! On the other hand, if you've seen the show, you can probably skip it and Sword of Destiny, because the show borrows from both of those short story collections, and start at Blood of Elves. Thank you! I haven't seen the show yet, but since I can't imagine picking up the short stories again I think I will watch the show in lieu of reading those and start with the first novel-length book. Maybe there will be a time I can go back to the short stories.

Aw man, Persona 5.... one day I'll finish it! *shakes fist at my 90+ hour playthrough still waiting for me* though it has piqued my curiosity about the previous Persona games, seeing 5 was my first one. Do you recommend one over the other? :3c

Ooh, if 5 was your intro to the series, then you're in for a treat. If you enjoyed the darker themes of 5 and/or want to be able to play as a female MC, then definitely play 3 next. It's my favourite for that reason, and also the game I have the most ships for by faaar, haha. P3 has the advantage that you can theoretically finish every social link etc in one playthrough, as well. Otoh, if you want something a little (just a little!) more lighthearted, and on a larger scale (like P5), then play 4. I love all three, but 3 is the one I've replayed the most, because of its characters.

ETA: I haven't played 1 or 2, but I've heard that they're really quite different to the more recent ones - the social links etc all started with P3, afaik.
