My Promise

To love my God;
To serve my Queen and my country;
To help other people
And to keep the Guide law.
There was an enrollment at Guides today and hearing the promise repeated (sometimes not entirely correctly, hehe) made me really think about it, more than I have for a while. It's scary to think that it's been such an integral part of my life for over 10 years now, but I really do think I live my life by it's principles. Sometimes, when people make their promise for the first time, it just seems like words - I know that's all I thought of it the first time I made it, as a Brownie aged 7, but now... I don't like to make a promise and not keep it, and this one is so worthwhile and so worth keeping that I try and do it all the time.
I will do my best - well, I do try, in everything that I do... except maybe french lessons *blushes*
To love my God - that one's easy. Love is the most important principle and concept behind everything.
To serve my Queen and my country - obviously. When I go to Iceland, I am representing my country, and so have to be proud of it. But I try and embody this at other times to - even not breaking the speed limit... well, not TOO much, anyway!
To help other people - I'd like to think I do this, anyway. When someone asks me for help, I think I rarely say no. I enjoy helping, to be honest. There's a kind of buzz to knowing you've helped someone out!
To keep the Guide law - I have to admit, I don't know them all. But they involve being kind and considerate to others in the world around you, being good to the environment, generally being a good person, in both striving to improve yourself and the world around you.
I just think these are worthy principles to live my life by.
