Guess who now has a job with the AA? Go on, go on, laugh at me after what I said before... but I needed the money, and it actually doesn't sound too bad. Meh. Goodbye summer holidays.

On the other hand, I've written three songs in as many weeks. Go the productiveness! Live 8 inspired one (Be Someone's Hero - which modulates from C in the verse to Ab in the chorus - possibly the most bizarre modulation EVER but it does actually work, just! Go the tertiary relationship!), my relationship with one particular person inspired another (Pen to Paper is it's working title, but it needs a new one.... I'm so crap at titles. The song sums up my feelings for that particular person rather well, though, I think), and the third inspired by nothing in particular (I Can't Be Your Baby - one of my 'there is a whole invented story behind this song, nothing to do with me' songs!)

I'm on a roll. Shame I'm going to Iceland, really, if this is going to continue!

Yay the creativity!!

Congrats on the AA job, even if it does diminish your chances of fun and frolics this summer. At least you can enjoy all the frolicing you can handle and more at Uni!!

and modulating to Ab (bVI) from C (I) is not that uncommon.....

*cough* Carl Perkins - Honey Don't *cough* Music Anthology *cough*

when are you off to Iceland anyway??

You expect me to know that end of the anthology? *Goes to look*

Aha - mine is different - the verse has a similar structure but the chorus is properly in Ab, whereas Honey Don't stays in E cos it goes into the 12 bar-ish bit.

I go to Iceland on the 19th, which is scarily soon!

hmm ... I wouldn't say that the movement between C and Ab in Honey Don't is a modulation - isn't it just part of the chord progression? please correct me if I'm wrong :|

It's true, it's not really a modulation.... but it was just the first example that came to mind of such a movement.....

Except for LOTS of the stuff i've written, I love modulating to bVI mmmmmmmmm.......
