Now I'm feeling slightly more awake, I thought I'd give some first thoughts on Iceland and other things. Firstly, I'm listening to this great band (though I'm not even going to TRY to type their name, it's in Icelandic!) who are one of Iceland's most popular bands and who played on Monday night, and I was RIGHT at the front (I got a bit squished, but oh well...) It was great.
Also, I've found out about a jamboree next year in NEW ZEALAND! Yay!!
Iceland was.... amazing. I can't be arsed to type it all again (Hooray!) so here's what I wrote on Taz:
We were told before we went that there were very few trees, but it's hard to imagine until you've seen it what that is actually like. I was on a Guide and Scout jamboree there, so we drove across the countryside to get to it (it was by a lake), and it was so barren! There are open spaces with old (very very very old) extinct volcanoes and lava fields, and the only plant life is ground cover - it's a bit like the Scottish Highlands, but everywhere. The lake we stayed by was amazing - it's the 2nd coldest one in the country, apparently, and it was so clear and blue! I'll put up some photos when I've had them developed. The weirdest thing was that we arrived at 3 in the morning, and it was still light - the sun was behind the hills but it wasn't dark in the slightest.
Pictures will be up once I get them developed.
